Can Lean Thinking save our Healthcare System
The Leading Edge Group is currently in negotiations with a major US university to provide a Lean Healthcare Black Belt Program in October 2007. The program will run for approximately 33 weeks throughout the academic year, comprising of four modules and a facility-based project.
The program is delivered through a hybrid of traditional distance education and on-line learning. The on-line element will consist of access to e-Learning modules as well as hard copy workbooks. Students also have to download the
There are also multimedia elements (slide shows, interactive elements, video clips, mini lectures etc.) on the system to aid study. On-line mentoring support will also be provided throughout the program.
Participants will gain a thorough understanding of how Lean Healthcare tools and practices can lower the cost of healthcare service and improve the quality and safety of healthcare and the patients'' journey.
A facility-based project will form a key element of the integration of the various
program, ensuring the integration of the various concepts in the participant''s workplace.
This project will need to result in cost savings in excess of $150,000 for the organisation, and will need to be signed off by the financial controller or other appropriate organization representative.
On-line discussions, moderated by a subject matter expert, on elements of each module will take place to reinforce the learning and maximize the benefit of the program for participants.
